If you're visiting perpetually sunny Southern California this winter and wondering about the lack of, well, winter, don't worry — the abundance of festive Christmas events in LA more than makes up for the lack of snow.

1. Christmas at The Grove

From Thanksgiving weekend through December 25th, this is arguably one of the most festive Christmas events in LA. Marvel at the 100-foot tree, decked out in 15,000 lights and 10,000 ornaments, enjoy the nightly snowfall at 7:00 and 8:00 pm, and meet Santa and his reindeer in the workshop.

2. L.A. Zoo Lights

Experience the zoo after dark with this immersive sensory experience. This year's "Animal Aglow" theme features life-sized creatures in a kaleidoscope of colors, along with activities, photo ops, and even the Northern Lights. Zoo Lights runs longer than many other Christmas events near LA, opening November 17 and closing for the season January 7.

3. Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens

If you're looking for a memorable place to check out Christmas lights near LA, head to Descanso Gardens. The beautiful botanical gardens go all-out for the holidays, transforming into a colorful illuminated living art installation. Walk through 10 exhibits, each with amazing light and sound effects.

4. Holiday Light Festival Train Rides at Griffith Park

Griffith Park's whimsical train rides are one of the most beloved things to do in LA this Christmas for families. Ride the one-mile loop, through thousands of lights and festive decor. You can also enjoy themed open-air photo ops, a gift shop, and concessions.

5. Yuletide Cinemaland

Heritage Square becomes a winter wonderland come December, perfectly framed by authentic Victorian houses. Yuletide Cinemaland features elaborate decorated walkways, sing-alongs, cocoa, mulled wine, and twice-nightly holiday movies. Expect classics like Elf, Home Alone, and The Santa Clause.

6. Hollywood Christmas Parade

If you're in town over Thanksgiving weekend, don't miss the 91st annual Hollywood Christmas Parade. As one of the most highly anticipated annual Christmas events in LA, expect over-the-top floats, celebrity sightings, and a few surprises.

7. Go Ice Skating at Pershing Square

You probably don't associate downtown LA with ice skating, but that's part of what makes it so magical. The Pershing Square Holiday Ice Skating Rink sets up in mid-November, right at the base of the city's iconic skyscrapers. For $20, you can rent skates and enjoy the ice for as long as you'd like.

8. Disney Festival of Holidays

No proper list of things to do in LA this Christmas is complete without mentioning "the happiest place on Earth." From early November through early January, Disneyland fully embraces the holidays, with festive twists on its rides, nightly entertainment, decor, food, and even characters. Note that this is the theme park's busiest time of year, so we strongly encourage you to make reservations and book your stay at Pacific Palms as early as possible.

Spend Christmas at the Pacific Palms Resort

Whether you're from out of town or a local on a staycation, the Pacific Palms serves as the perfect basecamp for enjoying Christmas in LA. Not only are we conveniently located to the city's hottest attractions, we also have a fantastic onsite restaurant, two championship golf courses, and a spa. Book your holiday getaway today!
