Oshogatsu in Little Tokyo

Ring in the first day of the new year with a traditional Japanese celebration! During Oshogatsu in Little Tokyo, you'll get to enjoy traditional taiko drum performances, mochi-making workshops, traditional dances, Japanese food booths, and calligraphy demonstrations. Be sure to stop by both Weller Court and Japanese Village Plaza to enjoy all of the culinary delights the festival has to offer. You'll likely be surprised at all that Little Tokyo has to offer if it's your first time in the area--we recommend taking at least an afternoon to fully enjoy Oshogatsu.

There's no better way to kick off the new year than with an excellent brunch, and at Red Restaurant (1 Industry Hills Pkwy, City of Industry), we've got you covered. Take in hilltop views while you and your loved ones enjoy steak and eggs, buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, and more. Don't forget to save room for some of our fantastic sides, including chicken apple sausage and our seasoned breakfast potatoes.
Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens
Distance from Pacific Palms Resort: 34 milesPut on your walking shoes and get ready to enjoy the first night of the new year with a one-mile walk through Descanso Gardens (1418 Descanso Drive, La Canada Flintridge). You'll love walking through geometric installations, lighting effects in the Ancient Forest, and creations on the Main Lawn by sculptor Tom Fruin. An important note: the Enchanted Forest of Light is open rain or shine, so be sure to keep an eye on the weather when you're booking tickets. Feel free to pack a picnic dinner and enjoy fantastic LA cuisine under the January sky.
